International Screen Institute at Diagonale: Talk on Generative AI with Eva Fischer & Claudia Larcher

During Diagonale – Festival of Austrian Film, the International Screen Institute hosts a public talk with Eva Fischer and Claudia Larcher on the future of image-making and cinema in the age of generative AI. The event takes place 19 March, 15:14–16:00 at the Diagonale Forum in Graz and will be held in German. Admission is free.

As part of Diagonale – Festival of Austrian Film, the International Screen Institute hosts a public impulse talk and conversation with Eva Fischer and Claudia Larcher exploring the future of image-making in the age of generative AI.

The talk, titled “Den Bildern Voraus. Neuausrichtung und Resonanz im Zeitalter generativer KI”, invites audiences to reflect on how we as a society might develop and use emerging technologies beyond the logic of acceleration, ownership and constant (self-)optimization.

Rather than approaching technologies such as artificial intelligence through dystopian narratives or resignation, curator and programme director Eva Fischer speaks with Vienna-based experimental filmmaker Claudia Larcher about the importance of moments of pause, reorientation and resonance. The conversation will explore how gaps, errors and malfunctions in technological systems can open productive and creative perspectives.

Together, they take a critical look at human systems of power and image production while raising constructive questions about the future of cinema, artistic practice and visual culture in the age of generative AI.

Eva Fischer is an independent curator, festival director, cultural manager and lecturer working in experimental media, immersive art and art & technology. She leads the programmes Future Ready and Hands-on A.I. Producers Lab.

Claudia Larcher is an experimental filmmaker based in Vienna. Her work combines archival material, AI and film to explore questions of history and image production. She is also an expert in the Hands-on A.I. Producers Lab programmes at the International Screen Institute.

The talk will be held in German.
